New Student Guide
Explore studiouboston.com; Access our current class schedule, read class descriptions, purchase memberships, and sign up for classes and workshops.
Arrive 10-15 minutes early. Always check in at the front desk–even if you made an online reservation.
Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable, loose or form fitting clothing. Layers help to adjust for temperature changes during and after class. Bring a water and a small towel for all classes. Towels are available to rent for $1. Yoga and Pilates classes are done barefoot; Barre classes are done with or without socks, personal preference. We do rent barre socks to try for $3 and sell them for $10-$12. Zumba is done with sneakers, please try to use inside shoes to keep our new wood floors in good shape!
Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid eating 2 hours prior to yoga or pilates classes. If you need some quick energy, fruit or juice would be okay before class. Drink plenty of water before and after class. We have a water fountain in both locations for you to use, but we also sell bottled water for $1.
Purchase a yoga mat. Having your own mat supports your commitment to your practice and ensures its cleanliness. We sell Kulae mats, Payoga Foward mats, and Manduka Yoga towels for purchase at the studio. Mats are available to rent for $3.
Leave belongings and cell phone on shelves and hooks outside of the studio. You are welcome to take any valuables in with you, just leave them to the side during class.
Notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions, i.e. pregnancy. This helps the teacher know how to assist you and give you modifications.
Exercise often! Studio U offers a variety of classes, and we recommend trying them all out. You will hit different muscles groups, get a different workout each time, and learn new things. Our YOGA classes are a great compliment to any other class as well, so be sure to keep practicing.
Take a private lesson! Spend an hour with an expert teacher to receive specific attention tailored to your needs before you begin group classes or in a addition to. Ask your favorite teacher or contact us directly and we can help set you up with someone.
And finally don’t be afraid to ask for guidance in any class. As you build your practice you’ll start to connect with teachers and can ask them questions as they come up. Or you can start now by emailing us with any questions, suggestions or needs at our contact email.
